Key Responsibilities
As a Senior Lab Chemist, you will:
- Conduct routine and non-routine GC/MS analyses for organic compounds in air, soil, water, and oil samples using EPA Methods (e.g., 8260, 8270, TO series).
- Work in mobile and field site laboratories, ensuring accurate data collection and analysis.
- Prepare standards and reagents while interpreting mass spectral data to elucidate compound structures.
- Develop, validate, and execute methods using GC with various detectors, including FID, PID, and MS.
- Perform sample preparation techniques such as liquid-liquid extraction, separatory funnel extraction, and solid-phase extraction.
- Generate concise and clear analytical reports and maintain laboratory instruments through routine calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Handle hazardous materials safely, adhering to all protocols and guidelines.
- Contribute to method development and validation to ensure the accuracy and reliability of analytical results.
Qualifications
- Education: B.S. in Chemistry or a closely related scientific field is required.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 14 years in analytical chemistry with expertise in Toxic Organic (TO) air methods and SW-846 methods for organic analyses.
- Proven proficiency in GC/MS techniques and familiarity with EPA-approved methods.
- Technical Expertise:
- Solid understanding of organic chemistry fundamentals, chromatography, and mass spectrometry theory.
- Experience with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
- Skilled in sample preparation techniques and instrumental analysis.
- Software Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
- Certifications: Current Medical Certification (or ability to obtain).
- Other Skills:
- Ability to work independently and multitask in a high-paced, laboratory-based environment.
