Position: Department Manager – Construction Materials Testing (CMT)
Location: Tallahassee, FL
Salary: $100,000 – $150,000+ (based on experience)
Experience: 6-10+ years (engineering background preferred but not required)
About the Role:
A leading employee-owned consultancy is seeking an experienced Department Manager to lead and grow the Construction Materials Testing (CMT) team in Tallahassee, FL. This is a pivotal operations management role responsible for overseeing projects, budgets, staffing, quality assurance, safety, and client relationships across the Florida Panhandle region (Tallahassee to Panama City and potentially Lake City).

Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise ongoing projects to ensure on-time and quality delivery.
- Manage team operations, including hiring, training, performance reviews, and resource allocation.
- Develop and implement business plans, financial strategies, and staffing plans.
- Oversee proposal preparation, cost estimation, and client negotiations.
- Drive business development and maintain strong client relationships.
- Lead safety initiatives and ensure adherence to company policies and standards.
- Promote continuous quality improvement across all projects.
Qualifications:
- Education: At least a bachelor’s degree in engineering, environmental science, geology, or a related field (Masters or PhD preferred).
- Experience: 6 to 10+ years in construction materials testing, with expertise spanning fieldwork, management, and operations.
- Certifications: PE license or equivalent certification preferred, but not required.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean record.
